What is VBS?
VBS at St. Lawrence
Vacation Bible School (VBS) at St. Lawrence Catholic Parish in Fairhope, Alabama encompasses our whole parish community from preschoolers to the “Treasures” group of retired adults. The mission of VBS is to provide an opportunity for the children in our parish and community to have an encounter with Christ during a week filled with fun and interactive activities which include music, Bible stories, skits, crafts, games, prayer, community outreach and more!!
What age can participate?
The age range for VBS is Pre-school through 6th grade with around 350 students attending. The 7th and 8th grade students serve as Jr. Helpers. The Life Teen group presents the daily opening skit & songs session. Life Teen students also serve as class helpers. In addition, about 75 adults volunteer in a variety of ways. VBS is open from 8:45 until 12:30.
The Theme
Atmosphere and environment are integral parts of the VBS learning experience. The Bible-setting transports children (and adults!) into the past, allowing them to imagine what it would have been like to live when Jesus did.
Activity Stations
Activities for preschoolers through 5th graders are presented at the following stations: Crafts, Snacks, Sing & Play, Outdoor Games, Trivia Games, & Learning Stations.
Learning Stations
The Learning Stations are designed to present mini-lessons which support the theme. The students will spend 15 minutes daily at each of the Learning Stations.
Daily Opening Celebration
The Opening Celebration showcases the theme through drama and songs. The Closing Celebration summarizes the daily lessons.
6th Graders
The program for 6th graders is structured differently. These students learn similar lessons but with a strong focus on Life Applications through “outreach projects” in our community, field trips to various sites that support the theme, and fundraising for a charitable cause.
